He is Professor with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia and head of research cluster on Sustainable Energy Systems and Policy at Universitas Indonesia (SESPUI) (http://sesp.ui.ac.id/). SESP UI is an integrated research cluster on complex energy systems and policy analysis, trying to understand the environment, economic and social impact of energy. He has served as a Director of the Centre for Energy Studies, Universitas Indonesia (PEUI) from 2004 to 2007, a Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering Universitas Indonesia, from 2007 to 2013, and a Chairman of the Association of Higher Education in Chemical Engineering Indonesia (APTEKINDO) 2009-2012. He also serve as an editorial board of Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, Elsevier, a member of the National Research Council (DRN), and a senior member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). His research focus includes (i) Sustainable energy system modeling and policy analysis and (ii) Nano-materials for sustainable energy technology. He has authored more than 100 scientific journals and two books, He has graduated 15 PhD, more than 70 Master and supervising 8 PhD students.
